Essential Puppy Supplies
Puppy Supplies
There are certain items which are necessary to buy when the puppy comes to his or her forever home. Some are essential for your pup’s well-being, while others are quite helpful and really handy in every day life.
There are so many kinds of pet supplies available for dogs. And even when I go to the store, sometimes , I just get overwhelmed with the selection what is available now days.
There are multiple factors that contribute to a happy, healthy life for your dog. You start by meeting your dog’s basic needs , which is really not that complicated, once you get familiar with this.
Dog Collars or Harness
I personally prefer french bulldog to be walking on the harness rather than the collar. Because the breathing is already not the best, and then to add more to it is to have a pulling frenchie. So I prefer harnesses, so that way, if your puppy pulls, that won’t be such a big deal.
I do not keep harness on a dog at all times, just when we go for a walk. Collar is very important because you put ID tags on it.
Microchips are a great way to supplement identification tags, but they are not acceptable replacements.
Dog Leashes
There are many varieties of them, and the length should change as the puppy grows. There are many types of them: for two dogs, three dogs, or just one.
Dog Beds
Puppy should have a special place to go and snuggle up, whether it is an old pillow that is just right, or a specific style of dog bed. Dog beds come in many designs to fit the needs of all kinds of dogs. I have a dog which loves to take the filling out of the bed and just spread it around the house. I have worked with him, but once in a great while, he still does it. So it is important, if you think, that your puppy may tear the bed up, then may be a good idea to buy a plastic bed and then just put a thick blanket in it. So that way, it will not be any risk of taking the stuffing out of the bed and possibly consuming it!
One bed is enough, but you can have several in different rooms, if that is an option.
Bowls
Bowls are essential item for the puppies. To make a right choice about the bowl is very important. Plastic bowls may not be suitable for every dog. Some puppies chew them. Stainless steel bowls are economical and easy to clean. It is also hard to chew them. They are very popular now days. There are a lot of them on the market: with different shapes, sizes and designs. Ceramic bowls are also a very good choice. They come with different designs, adding a little personality to mealtime.
Kennels
Kennels are an important part of housebreaking . I personally prefer wire cages. they are very easy to clean and dogs seem to like them: as long as I have the doors open:)))
Crates and kennels can also play a role in potty training. Additionally, kennels can really come in handy for travel. But for travel, the plastic kennel is essential, because wire cages are big and bulky and it is much harder to put a seat belt on them.
Car Travel Safety
We love to travel with our pets in the car. I myself, enjoy it. However, we never really think about the safety of the dog in the car, besides overheating. But there is one more really dangerous thing. Seat belt! We buckle ourselves up and often put the dog in a back seat or next to us. I have done it myself million times.
Highway patrol usually does not report any statistics of car accidents involving pets in cars. But there is nasty reality out there. And I myself, recently started thinking about it and rethought the safety of my own dogs in the car. My boyfriend recently rolled over our van. It was an accident, and he did not have a scratch on him, because he was buckled up. He was just in the car by himself, and no dogs were with him. Just a single car accident.
BUT, if the dog would if be with him, and the dog would not be bucked, it would if flew right out the window. Since then, I put my dogs in a kennel and buckle the kennel with the seat belt. plastic kennel with handle. Also now days, there are a lot of harnesses, booster seats for pups. But just a simple plastic travel kennel can save life.
Toys
Some prefer a nice loud squeaky toy, while others want to splay fetch or tug-of-war. Ropes usually work with multiple dogs household, they like to pull it from each other.
Toys are an important part of your dog’s development – they often mimic activities dogs would perform in the wild, such as chewing or retrieving. Plus, they help keep your dog active and stimulated.
Dog Food
The type of food you choose to give your dog has a major impact on your dog’s overall health. With so many choices out there, picking out the best foods can be a difficult task. Think twice before you reach for the economy dog food off the grocery shelf. It has a lot of fillers: wheat, grain and corn. Which cause allergies. The best foods usually can be found in major pet stores. Foods are usually breed specific. Raw food is universal for any breed-works like a charm for everyone, because it is the closest to the wild.
Do some research so you can make an educated choice. Finding the best varieties of dog treats is also a part of this process. Again, look for fillers in the treats: corn, wheat, grain.
Dog Grooming Equipment
All dogs need some degree of grooming, a task that requires some equipment. You will need to find grooming tools that suit your dog’s overall grooming requirements. Choose brushes, combs and shampoos based on your dog’s coat type. For some types, you will need hair clippers and scissors. All dogs need nail trims, but the size of your dog will determine the type of nail trimmers needed. Other miscellaneous grooming tools may be helpful depending on your dog’s individual needs.
Preventative Products
Preventative measures should be taken to protect your dog’s health. This may include vitamins and supplements, parasite prevention and dental care. Your veterinarian will prescribe the appropriate treatments based upon your location and your pet’s individual needs.
Extras
There are numerous dog products out there for recreation, protection, or just plain fun. For example, you might choose to get a seat belt to make car rides safer. Or your pup might need a fleece jacket for freezing winters.
There are so many extra products : from clothing to safety devices, the possibilities are endless. Just remember to get what your dog needs first, and what you want second.
